Urban and Master planning Project

Pwani University College, situated in Kilifi Town has a 20year strategic plan that would see it current student population of approximately 2000 increase to about 10,000, by the year 2020. Symbion team of consultants which includes James Cubitt & partners as master planners had the huge task of accommodating this student population in School clusters as well as related facilities.

The phasing of development poses a challenge as existing activities around the campus are to be uninterrupted but need to be linked to the new facilities. Symbion proposal envisage a new university core to the North of the existing core surrounded by clusters of Schools and students hostels and dining facilities. In order that the surrounding community benefits from this project, the master Plan includes amenities that can be accessed by the public without interfering with the core functions of the University. These include Junior schools, sports fields and facilities, places of worship and a teaching hospital.
