The Iconic Kenya National Theatre was in a deplorable state and in desperate need of rehabilitation. The restoration undertaken was aimed at taking this historic building back to its former glory and to promote the efforts of young musicians, film makers and the performing arts in general. Kenya Breweries together with the Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts funded the project. Symbion were appointed as Architects through a competitive process. The Auditorium being the heart of the theatre was transformed via; functional / operational aspects, new fixed and tilting seats were upholstered complete with integral back and arm articulation and modern aisle lighting was incorporated. Special Lighting included; new contemporary lighting systems at the theatre front, foot lighting, spot lighting and follow spot lights were all installed. Lighting systems were made flexible to accommodate various performances (e.g., lectures, plays, musical performances, etc.)
