Pwani University College, situated in Kilifi Town has a 20 year strategic plan that would see it current student population of approximately 2,000 increase to about 10,000 by the year 2020. Symbion’s team of consultants which includes James Cubitt & Partners as master planners had the huge task of accommodating this student population in School clusters as well as related facilities. The phasing of the development posed a challenge as existing activities around the campus were to be uninterrupted while being linked to the new facilities. Symbion’s proposal envisaged a new university core to the North of the existing core surrounded by clusters of schools , students hostels and dining facilities. In order that the surrounding community benefited from this project, the master plan included amenities that could be accessed by the public without interfering with the core functions of the University. These included junior schools, sports fields and facilities, places of worship and a teaching hospital.
